The 15.6-inch Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5257 and L55W-C5259 deliver not only the popular convertible design with a 360-degree hinge, but also good overall specifications and elegant exterior. First of all, the multi-touch display features a sharp 1080p resolution and wide viewing angles thanks to IPS technology. Secondly, the keyboard has backlight, which is a premium-class notebook feature. Furthermore, the included 5th Generation Intel Core processors, well-sized system memory, and fast solid state drive-based storage ensure flawless PC experience with excellent everyday computing performance and snappy interaction with Windows and apps.
Available processor choices is the lower-mid-range Intel Core i3-5015U processor in the L55W-C5257 and mid-range Core i5-5200U in the L55W-C5259. Both of these CPU incorporate the Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics. The Intel Core i3 and i5 can easily crunch your routine computing tasks, like surfing the web, editing Word and Excel documents, or media playback including ultra high resolution videos. The i5 is a better option for those interested in photography editing or video creation, since it offers a bit of extra oomph via TurboBoost technology. Gaming-wise, many of the popular titles are supported thanks to the Intel HD 5500, but this integrated graphics solution isn’t powerful enough to handle the latest demanding blockbusters. The L55W-C5257 comes with 6GB of RAM, whereas the L55W-C5259 includes 8GB. Both capacities are good enough for all usual computing scenarios, but the latter one gives extra headroom if heavy multitasking occurs. As for storage, both notebooks are equipped with a 128GB solid state drive. The capacity isn’t great for today’s PC standards, but SSD technology offers way better read and write speeds than bigger but obviously slower hard drives. Upgrading the RAM memory and storage isn’t allowed on the L55W, you’ll have to choose between the offered configurations wisely.
For sound, the laptops sport stereo speakers, located on the top of the keyboard deck for un-muted sound and optimized by Skullcandy.
Video conferencing is enabled through a 720p HD webcam and dual microphones.
Externally, the L55W’s casing is dominated by durable plastic surfaces with brushed-metal-like finish in golden color.
Besides excellent performance and premium-looking shell, the 5-pound Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W has a well-rounded set of networking and connectivity features. There are 802.11AC wireless with the fastest data transfer speeds to date, two USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port, HDMI video connector, a media card reader, combo audio jack, and Bluetooth.
Toshiba has included a 3-cell 45 Whr battery, which is a mediocre capacity. There’s no info on battery life for these particular models, but the PC maker claims maximal 7 hours of runtime for some other similar configurations.
Alongside the L55W-C5257 and L55W-C5259, you can find other similar configurations of the same notebook series on the market, but these two offer the best bang for the buck, especially because of the included SSD drives instead of laggy HDDs.
